Ontario bans using cannabis in any form inside a vehicle that is being driven or will be driven, and the Criminal Code sets limits on THC in the blood. Between 2 and just under 5 nanograms per millilitre, a driver faces a summary offence and a fine of up to $1,000.
At 5 nanograms or more, the offence becomes a hybrid one that can bring up to 10 years in prison. When alcohol is in the mix, the line drops to 50 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood combined with 2.5 nanograms of THC.
