Where smoking is allowed in Newmarket
Provincial law allows smoking or vaping cannabis in your own home, unless that home is also a workplace such as a long-term care home, and in a good number of outdoor public spaces, sidewalks and parks among them. Hotels can offer designated smoking guest rooms. Town bylaws, leases and property owners can all narrow those options.
Some Newmarket spots are clearly off limits. Upper Canada Mall is an enclosed public place. Restaurant and bar patios on Main Street fall under the patio ban, which reaches 9 metres past the edge of each patio. The entrances at Southlake Regional Health Centre on Davis Drive carry a 9 metre buffer.
Parks such as Fairy Lake fall under the general provincial rule, but check the signs, since the Town of Newmarket can add restrictions. Arenas, pools and the grounds of other community recreational facilities carry a 20 metre buffer. Bus shelters are off limits too, and that includes the covered stops on the Davis Drive rapidway.
Edibles take their time
An edible runs on a different schedule from a joint or a vape. Smoke or vape, and effects show up within seconds to minutes. Eat or drink cannabis, and Health Canada's range is 30 minutes to 2 hours before anything is felt, with effects that can hang on for up to 24 hours.

Mixing cannabis with alcohol has its own threshold: 50 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood together with 2.5 ng of THC per ml.
