In a car, cannabis has to be in a closed, sealed package and out of reach of everyone in the vehicle, the same rule as for alcohol. No one in a vehicle, driver or passenger, can use cannabis in any form.

Driving after cannabis in Nova Scotia
Cannabis slows reaction time, coordination and judgment. If an officer has grounds to lay an impaired driving charge after a field sobriety test, your licence is suspended for 24 hours on the spot, and a first conviction brings a fine of at least $1,000 and a one-year licence suspension.
Even without a criminal charge, an officer who suspects cannabis impairment can suspend a licence for 7 days on a first incident, 15 days on a second and 30 days on a third. Drivers in the graduated licence program have zero tolerance.
