Online Cannabis Store or a Store Near You: What Actually Changes

At a counter you see what that location carries and can ask whoever is serving you. Shopping a cannabis store online, the whole menu sits on one screen: filter flower, pre-rolls, edibles or hash and compare sizes and prices side by side.

Stock changes daily, so the live menu is the reference, not last week's screenshot. Regular ounces at GasDank start from $50, and $40 ounce specials turn up now and then on the deals page.

The real loss online is the jar you can't open. A good listing makes up for it with the strain name and type (indica, sativa or hybrid), THC and CBD figures, the weight, the price and actual photos.

Those numbers are what make Health Canada's advice usable: it suggests starting with 1 or 2 puffs of a product with 10% THC or less, and edibles with 2.5 mg of THC or less. Canada's lower-risk cannabis use guidelines add that products with a high CBD to THC ratio typically carry less severe health risks.

In a store you pay at the till and carry the bag home, so there is no delivery charge. Online, delivery is part of the price: same-day orders in Toronto, Mississauga and Malton cost $15 to deliver, free from $80, and in the outer GTA it is $20, free from $160. Mail orders ship for $20, free from $150.

Local orders can be paid in cash at the door or by Interac e-Transfer; mail orders are e-Transfer only, and each e-Transfer adds $5. An e-Transfer needs online or mobile banking with a participating Canadian financial institution; Interac says the money can typically be used within minutes, though some transfers take longer, and a mail order ships only once the payment arrives.

A store is as quick as the trip there and back. GasDank's same-day delivery in Toronto and the GTA usually takes 1 to 2 hours, and the same-day delivery page shows which areas qualify. Elsewhere, a tracked parcel most often arrives 24 to 72 hours after it ships, and no delivery day or hour is guaranteed.

Shopping in person means being seen going in. Ordering online means nobody watches you browse, but you hand over an address and a phone number, and the order changes hands at your door or arrives as a tracked parcel.

Walking into a store, there is no delivery minimum to reach, only the hours it posts. Same-day delivery has a floor: $40 in Toronto, Mississauga and Malton, $60 in the outer GTA, and none on mail orders.

GasDank's hours are 8 AM to 2 AM Sunday to Wednesday and 8 AM to 3 AM Thursday to Saturday, Eastern time. There is no published last-call time, so check by phone or text before a late order.
