What is a cannabis capsule?
A capsule is a set amount of cannabis oil sealed inside a shell, such as a softgel, that you swallow whole. Health Canada's classification guidance says a capsule meant to be swallowed intact is not a food format, which places it with cannabis extracts rather than food-style edibles. A chewy soft capsule with no shell or liquid inside is treated as a gummy-style edible under the same guidance.
Because a capsule goes down whole, the number on its label is the smallest amount it lets you take. You can cut a gummy into quarters; a capsule is built to be taken in one piece.
How long do THC capsules take to work?
No faster than any other edible. Health Canada's lower-your-risks guide says the full effect of eaten cannabis may not arrive for up to 4 hours, and its consumer information sheet warns that this delay can lead people to take too much. A second capsule taken before the first has peaked is how people end up with far more THC than they meant to, so wait out the full 4 hours; our edible dosage guide explains the timing.
How to read the strength
Health Canada's label guide explains the formats THC figures come in. Per unit: a 4-piece pack marked 2.5 mg per unit holds 10 mg in all. As a total: a pack marked Total THC 10 mg holds 10 mg however many pieces are inside. Work out which style your capsule label uses before doing any math.
Then compare the per-capsule figure with 2.5 mg. A capsule holding 50 mg by itself is 20 times that amount; one holding 400 mg is 160 times. These strengths call for an established tolerance; newer users should look for a lower dose on the edibles menu.
Capsules versus baking at home
Home baking leaves you guessing. University of Guelph public health professor Andrew Papadopoulos points out that homemade edibles might contain any concentration, and that a lot of cannabis oil can be packed into a few cookies or gummy bears. A capsule carries a printed THC figure, so the math starts from a known number. The menu carries lab-tested products.
Storing capsules safely
Health Canada asks that all cannabis be kept in its original child-resistant packaging, locked away and out of sight and reach of children and pets. Keep capsules in their labelled container rather than a pill organizer or vitamin bottle, so nobody takes one by mistake.
Ordering THC capsules in Canada
Capsules sit with the rest of our edibles, next to chocolates and candy. We deliver the same day across Toronto and the GTA, usually within 1 to 2 hours, and ship by tracked mail everywhere else in Canada; buying edibles online explains how that works.

Capsules, frequently asked questions
Q.Do THC capsules get you high?
Yes. Health Canada names THC as the main cannabinoid behind the feeling of being high, and a capsule delivers it the way any edible does.
Q.How long do cannabis capsules last?
Health Canada's consumer information sheet puts ingested cannabis at 4 to 8 hours, with some lingering effects lasting 12 to 24 hours.
Q.Are capsules stronger than gummies?
Not by nature. Strength comes from the milligrams in each unit, so compare label figures, not formats.
Q.How long should you wait to drive after a THC capsule?
At least 6 hours after using cannabis, according to Health Canada's lower-risk guidelines.
