They work like other edibles. You swallow them, they are digested, and the effect comes on slowly, usually after 30 to 90 minutes.
The two are different compounds. Health Canada describes CBD as not intoxicating, but it adds that CBD does have an effect on the brain and may reduce some of the effects of THC.

Per gummy, not per pack: A pack labelled 2,500 mg is the total across every gummy. What matters for you is the amount in one gummy, so divide the total by the number of pieces.
Price per mg: Dividing the price by the total mg is a quick way to compare value. It does not tell you about quality, so use it alongside reviews and the brand.
THC content: Check the THC figure as well as the CBD figure, especially if you need to avoid THC.
Ingredients and flavour: If you avoid certain ingredients, read the list. Flavours vary, so a small pack is a cheap way to find the one you like.
Start with a small amount, wait a full two hours, and only then decide whether to take more. Taking another one too early is the most common mistake with any edible.
