Solid THCA in crystal form, sold as diamonds, is what Heisenberg offers under the Northern Lights name: a concentrate named for a strain, also called NL, that Leafly counts among the best-known ever. The crystals settle out of an extract as it separates and remain THCA until heated, when they convert to THC; our diamonds primer covers how they are made.
Seattle rumours, Dutch seed stock
Afghani and Thai are the parents Leafly gives for Northern Lights, which it calls a pure indica prized for resin-rich buds, quick flowering and toughness while growing. Its history note says the strain is rumoured to have first sprouted near Seattle, Washington, then spread out of Holland from after 1985 through the company now known as Sensi Seeds. AllBud also calls it a pure indica, describes it as an inbred descendant of original Afghani landrace strains, and says it is especially popular along the West Coast and in Colorado.
Shiva Skunk, Super Silver Haze and Black Domina
Leafly says Northern Lights gave rise to hybrids such as Shiva Skunk and Super Silver Haze, and its genetics tab names Silver Haze and Black Domina among the strain’s children. Growers on Leafly describe purple buds coated in crystals, from plants that do best indoors and flower in 45 to 50 days, and its grow notes add a high calyx-to-leaf ratio that makes trimming easy.
Pine, spice and a creamy exhale
Leafly tags the flavour pine, earthy and woody, and says consumers describe a pungently sweet, spicy taste that is smooth on the exhale. AllBud calls the flavour sweet and earthy with hints of citrus and tags the aroma pine, pungent, spicy and sweet, while some of its reviewers taste earth and cream with vanilla and coffee on the exhale. Our Northern Lights strain page sums the profile up as sweet, earthy and piney with a honeyed finish. Myrcene heads Leafly’s terpene list, with caryophyllene and limonene behind it.
Strain figures beside a crystal concentrate
Feeling relaxed is the most common report among Leafly reviewers, and AllBud describes powerful body effects after a couple of hits, an upbeat mix of euphoria and physical relaxation. Northern Lights holds 4.4 from 3,835 ratings on Leafly and 4.7 from 198 votes on AllBud.
Leafly lists THC near 18% with CBG at 1%, AllBud gives 16% to 21%, and our strain page puts typical THC at 16 to 22%. Those figures describe the strain in general. Diamonds are an extract, a group Health Canada rates high in THC, with shatter, wax, kief and hash as its examples; its advice to first-timers and occasional users is to steer clear of them. Its lower-risk guidelines also ask anyone who has used cannabis to leave the car keys alone for at least 6 hours.
