Indica
IndicaMataro Blue is flower named for a three-way cross of Black Domina, Blue Monster and Mazar-i-Sharif that Kannabia Seed Company says it developed in the Catalan city of Mataro. Leafly labels the strain an indica, AllBud sets it as an indica dominant hybrid at 70% indica to 30% sativa, and Kannabia calls its seed indica-dominant and feminised. For other indicas to try alongside it, our best indica strains guide covers six classics from GDP to Bubba Kush.
A Catalan name and a blue cast
Kannabia says the name comes from Mataro and from the blue colour the flowers take on when temperatures drop near the end of summer. Leafly calls it a rare three-way cross with flavourful, award-winning genetics, and lists El Matador as a child strain.
Orange, berries and sandalwood on the nose
Kannabia describes a strong, kaleidoscopic aroma of orange, berries and sandalwood. The taste is distinctly bitter orange, forest fruits and jasmine, with an incense background.
AllBud says breaking a nug releases earthy berry aromas, with a spicy, herbal note as it burns, and that the flavour comes on sweet and fruity with a lingering herby-berry exhale. On Leafly the flavour tags read berry, blueberry and sweet, and reviewers there mention a spicy start with a tart lemon finish and a pungent, sweet or slightly skunky smell.
Round, tight buds with blue undertones
AllBud describes round, very dense and tight buds in forest green with bright blue undertones, spattered with thin orange hairs and coated in tiny amber trichome crystals. Leafly reviewers also mention dense nugs.
Ocimene leads the terpenes
Ocimene, described as minty, comes first in Leafly’s science section, ahead of myrcene and pinene. Leafly puts the THC at 23% with the potency gauge above average, AllBud calls 24% the average, and Kannabia gives 23% THC and CBD under 0.5%.
Reported effects and the prizes Kannabia lists
Leafly’s effect tags are relaxed and tingly. AllBud’s write-up starts with a tingle at the rear of the head and neck, spreading into an active, euphoric state, then a happy body high with hunger. Kannabia calls the effect stimulating in small amounts and more relaxing in larger ones.
Among the prizes Kannabia lists for the strain are first place for Rosin at LiftExpo Toronto in 2016 and first place for Best For Extractions at Cogollos Libertadores del Noa in 2022. It adds that the resin is valued for cold extraction or rosin.
