What is a weed cart?
A cart, short for cartridge, is the part of a vape that holds the oil. It has a mouthpiece on top, a small tank, a heating coil and a threaded base that screws onto a battery. When the battery powers the coil, the oil warms into a vapour that you inhale. When the tank is empty you replace the cart and keep the battery.
Carts are filled with different kinds of cannabis oil. Distillate is a highly refined oil, and because refining removes most of the plant's natural aroma, many distillate carts add terpenes back for flavour. Live resin and other full-spectrum oils keep more of the original plant character. Our guides to distillate, live resin carts and shatter carts explain each type.
510 thread: which batteries fit a cart
Most pre-filled cannabis carts use a 510 thread, a standard screw connection shared by most vape batteries. That is why one 510 battery can run carts from different brands.
Standard does not mean universal. Hardware maker Vessel notes that a cart's width and height, the airflow, the electrical contact and the coil's resistance all affect how well it works on a given battery, and some wide carts will not sit flush on slim batteries. Its advice is to screw the cart on gently without overtightening and to start at the battery's lowest voltage. See our 510 batteries and the Yocan UNI Pro guide if you need hardware.
How strong is cart oil?
Cart oil is a cannabis extract, so it is far more potent than flower. The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA) says extracts can contain up to 99% THC, compared with the 10 to 25% typically found in dried cannabis buds.
Strength is shown as a percentage or in milligrams per gram, and 900 mg/g is the same as 90% THC. Canada's Chief Medical Officers of Health suggest starting with one or two puffs of a product with 10% (100 mg/g) THC or less, avoiding deep inhalation and breath-holding, and waiting, because inhaled effects begin within seconds to minutes but can take up to 30 minutes to be fully felt. For high-strength extracts, CCSA suggests taking one puff and waiting five minutes before deciding on another.
How to store a cart
Keep carts upright, at room temperature and out of direct sunlight. CCSA notes that cannabis extracts are sensitive to heat and can break down.
Store carts and batteries out of sight and reach of children and pets, in child-resistant packaging, as CCSA recommends for all cannabis extracts.

Cartridges, frequently asked questions
Q.What is a weed cart?
A weed cart, or THC cartridge, is a small tank pre-filled with cannabis oil that screws onto a vape battery. You keep the battery and replace the cart when it is empty. Most carts use the standard 510 thread.
Q.Do weed carts fit any battery?
Most do, because most pre-filled cannabis carts use the 510 thread. Fit is not guaranteed: very wide carts may not sit flush on slim batteries, and coil resistance and voltage also matter. Screw the cart on gently and start at the lowest voltage.
Q.Is 90% THC strong for a cart?
Yes. A cart labelled 90% THC holds 900 mg of THC per gram of oil. The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction puts typical dried buds at 10 to 25% THC and says extracts can reach 99%. Canada's Chief Medical Officers of Health suggest new users start with one or two puffs of products with 10% THC or less.
Q.How many puffs should I take from a cart?
Start small. Canada's Chief Medical Officers of Health suggest one or two puffs of a product with 10% THC or less, then waiting, since full effects can take up to 30 minutes. For high-strength extracts, the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction suggests one puff and a five-minute wait before another.
Q.How should I store a cart?
Upright, at room temperature, away from direct sun and heat, and out of sight and reach of children and pets.
Q.How much is a weed cart?
As of October 2026, carts on the GasDank menu run from $25 to $40 each. The price is on each listing.
Q.What is the difference between a cart and a disposable?
A cart screws onto a reusable battery and is replaced when it is empty. A disposable has the battery and the oil sealed together and is used until it runs out.
Q.Can I buy carts online in Canada?
GasDank delivers carts the same day across Toronto and the GTA and ships them by mail across Canada. You must be 19 or older (21 in Quebec) with valid ID.
