Where you can smoke in Barrie
Ontario law allows cannabis at home and in many outdoor public places, including Barrie sidewalks and parks. Barrie can add bylaws on top of that, so check the City of Barrie's current rules before lighting up at Centennial Beach or anywhere else on the waterfront.
Some places are ruled out by the province no matter what. Restaurant and bar patios, plus a 9 metre ring around them, are off limits, which includes every downtown patio. Edibles are slow. Health Canada says the effects can start anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours after eating or drinking cannabis, and they can last up to 24 hours, long after the evening that started them. Smoked or vaped cannabis, by contrast, is felt within seconds to minutes.
