Where you cannot smoke in Coquitlam
Parks, transit and schools
B.C.'s default lets adults smoke or vape cannabis wherever tobacco smoking and vaping are allowed, plus designated smoking areas. Coquitlam's parks and transit stations carve big holes in that.
Parks come first. Smoking and vaping cannabis is banned in provincial, regional and municipal parks except some designated areas and campsites, which covers Mundy Park, Town Centre Park around Lafarge Lake and Colony Farm Regional Park.
Transit is the other big one. The 6 metre buffer around bus stops, transit shelters and train stations applies at Coquitlam Central, Lincoln, Lafarge Lake-Douglas and Burquitlam stations. School grounds and the sidewalks and roads alongside them are off limits too, as are playgrounds, sports fields, skate parks and pools.
Inside your own home there are no provincial restrictions, but a strata or landlord can ban it. Check the City of Coquitlam's bylaws as well, since local rules can add to the provincial list.

Edibles: slow to start, long to finish
Wait 2 full hours
Smoke or vapour reaches you within seconds to minutes. An edible has to go through digestion first, which is why Health Canada gives a range of 30 minutes to 2 hours before effects begin, with effects that can last up to 24 hours.
The classic mistake is a second gummy before the first has kicked in. Wait the full 2 hours, eat a proper meal first and skip the alcohol.
Keep edibles in their original packaging and out of reach of children and pets. If you have had one, plan on staying off the road for the rest of the day.
Impaired driving on Coquitlam roads
Lougheed Highway, the Barnet Highway and Highway 1 over the Port Mann Bridge all fall under the same federal limits. A THC level of 2 ng or more but under 5 ng per ml of blood is a summary offence carrying a fine of up to $1,000.
At 5 ng or more it becomes a hybrid offence with up to 10 years in prison. Combining 50 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood with 2.5 ng of THC is also an offence.
B.C. also says no one may consume cannabis in a vehicle, whether driving or riding along, moving or parked. Nor can you operate a vehicle knowing someone aboard is consuming. The Millennium Line, a bus or a cab is the better plan.
Coquitlam neighbourhoods and delivery notes

Hillside homes and townhouses around the golf course above Town Centre. Snow can hang on here after it melts lower down.
Burke Mountain
Newer neighbourhoods in the northeast with fresh street names. Add a nearby main road on the second address line.
Ranch Park and Mundy Park
Central Coquitlam streets around the big forest park. Mostly detached houses with clear front doors.
Como Lake
Residential streets around Como Lake Avenue and the small lake park. Porches here catch the rain, so collect parcels quickly.
Cape Horn and United Boulevard
The commercial strip by Highway 1 at the south end. If you ship to a workplace here, make sure someone at the front can sign for or hold the box.
Condo towers in Town Centre and Burquitlam
Coquitlam's tower growth has gathered along the Millennium Line, especially at Burquitlam and in the Town Centre near Lafarge Lake-Douglas station. In these buildings a courier may use the buzzer, a concierge or a parcel room.
Give the suite its own line on the label and list the buzzer code beside it when the two differ. Keep your phone nearby when tracking says out for delivery.
Strata rules matter more than usual in towers. Owners can pass a bylaw restricting or banning smoking or growing with a three quarter vote, so a balcony that is fine under provincial law can still be off limits in your building.
Douglas College students and the 19+ rule
Douglas College's David Lam Campus sits beside Lafarge Lake in the Town Centre, and plenty of first-year students there are 18. In B.C. the minimum age for non-medical cannabis is 19, and GasDank holds every order to the same line.

For each item the menu gives THC and CBD figures where available, the strain type and, for flower, a grade. Grades go from value up through AAA to AAAA, judged on appearance, aroma, trim and how evenly the flower burns, which is why AAAA weed costs more per gram.
Flower lists THC as a percentage. Edibles, drinks and vapes list it in milligrams, and that is the number to watch when you dose. Concentrates such as hash and shatter are far stronger than flower, so treat them with respect.

Privacy, packaging and neighbours
