Afghan Kush Strain is Afghan Kush flower. Leafly lists the strain as an indica rooted in the Hindu Kush range near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, and refined there over centuries.
Traditionally grown for hash
Leafly calls Afghan Kush one of the top sources of hash, including charas and sticky black Afghani hash, and AllBud says it was traditionally harvested for higher hashish counts. Leafly credits White Label Seed Company, a Sensi Seeds partner in the Netherlands, with making its seeds available to growers.
In Leafly’s genetics box, Afghani is the parent, and Black Afghan and Sapphire OG are shown as its children. Leafly also gives Afghani Kush as another name, and AllBud gives Afghan OG.
Big, blunt-topped and tacky
Leafly describes massive, blunt-topped nuggets heavy with resin, and big yields. AllBud pictures a sturdy plant with light-coloured nugs, resinous trichomes and buds covered in red or dark-orange hairs.
Robert Misic’s tip in our Afghan Kush guide is to expect tacky fingers from all that resin. Citing Leafly’s curing guide, he notes that the stickiness comes from trichomes rather than moisture, so damp-feeling buds or a smell of cut grass are what should raise concern; our storage guide covers keeping flower fresh.
Wood, tar and a mango-orange nose
Leafly’s flavour tags for Afghan Kush are woody, tar and earthy, and Leafly’s lab data shows myrcene as the most abundant terpene, followed by caryophyllene and pinene. AllBud compares the aroma to a mango-orange farm with a pinch of funk and describes the taste as bland and fruity rather than harsh. AllBud’s tags add herbal, pine, spicy and sweet flavours, with kush, pungent and floral among the scents.
Hungry, relaxed and happy
Hungry and relaxed are the two effects Leafly reviewers name most, and AllBud’s users add a body high, euphoria and happiness. AllBud says typical indica body effects last up to 2 to 3 hours. The strain averages 4.0 from 1,273 ratings on Leafly and 4.6 from 54 votes on AllBud.
Leafly’s figure for THC is about 15%, and AllBud’s is 21%. Health Canada’s lower-risk page advises starting with 1 or 2 puffs of a product with 10% THC or less, and notes that the effects of smoking may keep building for up to half an hour.

Q.Which strain is Afghan Kush descended from?
Afghani, according to Leafly’s genetics box, which also lists Black Afghan and Sapphire OG as strains bred from Afghan Kush.
Q.Why are Afghan Kush buds so sticky?
Resin. Robert Misic’s tip in our Afghan Kush guide, drawing on Leafly’s curing guide, is that the tack comes from trichomes and not water, so a damp feel or a grassy smell is the thing to watch for.
Q.What does Afghan Kush taste like?
Leafly tags it woody, tar and earthy; AllBud calls the taste bland and fruity, never harsh, with herbal, pine, spicy and sweet notes.
Q.Is Afghan Kush listed as an indica?
Yes, on both Leafly and AllBud, and AllBud describes it as an indica brought from the Hindu Kush mountain range.
