Granddaddy Purple and a Durban line

Our Cherry Pie guide traces the strain to a Bay Area breeder who goes by Pieguy, using Granddaddy Purple and an F1 line of Durban Poison. Leafly gives the parents as Granddaddy Purple and F1 Durb, and AllBud names Grand Daddy Purple and Durban Poison. Leafly classes the strain simply as a hybrid; AllBud leans it 80% toward indica, with 20% sativa, and terms it indica-dominant. Robert Misic’s tip in our guide starts from a Leafly note that Cherry Kush sometimes goes by the Cherry Pie name: look for the Granddaddy Purple and F1 Durb parentage, tight buds with orange hairs and purple flecks, and that sweet, sour cherry pie scent. AllBud adds that the authentic version can be hard to find.

Leafly describes dense buds full of orange hairs with a touch of purple, and AllBud sees the same density and orange hairs with a slight purple tint. One Leafly reviewer adds frost to the picture, with fiery orange hairs and faint purple streaks, and an AllBud reviewer describes dark green and purple buds.

Sweet and sour cherry, with a gassy edge

This flower’s aroma runs to cherries, sweet fruit and a pungent note. Leafly says the strain smells of sweet and sour cherry pie, and AllBud says that cherry-pie aroma is what inspired the name. Reviewers fill in the rest: one on Leafly finds baked goods mixed with a gassy edge, an AllBud reviewer smells cherry, grape and gas, another who vaped it tasted tart cherries and berries with a pastry-like flavour, and a second Leafly reviewer found the taste very floral. Giggly and happy in reviews, with two THC figures

Leafly’s text says reviewers feel giggly, happy and euphoric, its top-effects panel shows relaxed, giggly and happy, and its gauge reads mostly energizing. AllBud mentions euphoria, relaxation of body and mind and an uplifted mood. For THC, Leafly’s strain page shows 16% with 1% CBG and an above-average potency rating, while AllBud gives 16% to 24% with 1% CBD. Leafly’s 2,216 ratings average 4.3, and AllBud’s 121 votes average 4.5.
