Zelato

Zelato is listed as sativa flower, weighed out at 1 g, 3.5 g, 7 g, 14 g or 28 g.

Gelato and Zkittlez behind the name

AllBud traces Zelato to a cross of Gelato and Zkittlez and reads the name as a nod to those two well-known parents. AllBud classes the result as a hybrid with equal shares of sativa and indica, 50% each. Leafly keeps its entry under the spelling Z’Lato, gives Zelato and Z Lato as other names, and places it among hybrids. Our guide on the three type names, indica, sativa and hybrid, explains what each one covers.

Spade-shaped buds with purple undertones

AllBud describes the buds as dense and fat, shaped like spades and coloured a dark olive green with purple undertones. AllBud adds red-orange hairs and small purple-white crystals to the picture. One customer wrote that the flower “was fresh, nicely trimmed, and had a pleasant natural aroma.” For holding on to that freshness, our guide to keeping weed fresh covers storage.

Pine and berry on the nose, cherry on the exhale

AllBud describes a sweet, woody pine scent with hints of spicy flowers and fresh berries, and its aroma tags add lemon, citrus, earthy and sour. For flavour, AllBud reports a sweet, fruity taste carrying cherry and berry notes, with a woody, cherry-tinged exhale; citrus and sour also appear among its flavour tags. Leafly’s flavour tags are chemical, berry and blueberry, and one Leafly reviewer found the taste fruity, gassy and slightly cheesy.

Effects reported on Leafly and AllBud

Leafly reviewers most often report feeling uplifted, euphoric and energetic, and Leafly’s page describes the effects as leaning toward the energizing side. The Leafly reviewer who noted the gassy taste called the high a mellow, focused buzz. AllBud’s write-up has the high arriving quickly, with a heady, cerebral euphoria and fits of giggles over a light, relaxing body high. AllBud’s effect tags read euphoria, giggly, happy, relaxing and uplifting. Leafly users rate the strain 4.4 from 19 ratings, and AllBud shows 4.3 from 22 votes.

AllBud’s 15% to 24% THC range and first puffs

AllBud’s strain page puts THC at 15% to 24%. Even 15% is well over the 10% THC that Health Canada’s guidance on lowering risks recommends when starting out, along with beginning at 1 or 2 puffs. Health Canada adds that inhaled cannabis starts to act within seconds to minutes and reaches its peak within 30 minutes at most. Its lower-risk guidelines add a driving rule: stay out of the driver’s seat for at least 6 hours after using cannabis.
