What is Purple Panty Dropper?
Purple Panty Dropper, usually shortened to PPD, is Humboldt Seed Company's original strain. The breeder's description on SeedFinder says it is now sold as P.P.D. (formerly Purple Panty Dropper) and lists its genetics as Matanuska Mist x Oregon Grape x Purple Haze. SeedFinder's lineage traces Oregon Grape to AK-47 and White Widow, and Matanuska Mist to Matanuska Tundra and Grey Mist.
Leafly files PPD as an indica and describes indica-dominant flowers; the breeder calls it indica-dominant but nicely balanced with sativa, and AllBud puts it at 70% indica and 30% sativa. Leafly says it is named for its deep purple hues and its "supposed" aphrodisiac effects.
Look, smell and taste
The breeder describes rich purple, moderately dense buds with a thick, sweet, floral smell that is almost like Concord grape. AllBud describes long, dark purple, pepper-shaped buds with bright orange hairs and a heavy coat of lavender-tinted trichomes. For why some flower turns purple, see our guide to purple weed.
Leafly reviewers most often taste plum, grape and lavender, and AllBud lists sweet grape with apple and berry plus an earthy, herbal touch on the nose. In Leafly's lab data, the most abundant terpene is limonene, followed by myrcene and caryophyllene.
Effects people report
Leafly's description mentions an energizing, euphoric high, while its effect meter rates PPD mostly calming. Among 98 Leafly ratings, the effects mentioned most are aroused, tingly and relaxed. The breeder lists euphoric, mood-lifting effects, and AllBud describes a happy, euphoric lift followed by a tingly, relaxing body feel, with some people getting hungry.
The negatives Leafly reviewers report most are dry mouth, dry eyes and feeling anxious. Start with a small amount, and follow Health Canada's lower-risk guidelines: do not drive or operate machinery for at least 6 hours after using cannabis.
How strong is Purple Panty Dropper?
Humboldt Seed Company lists THC at 18% to 25% with 0.1% CBD. Leafly shows 22% THC and 1% CBG and rates it above average, and AllBud lists 24%. Expect batches to vary and go by the lab-tested numbers on the product.
Similar strains
Purple Haze is one of PPD's three parents. Through Oregon Grape it also descends from AK-47 and White Widow, according to SeedFinder. Humboldt Seed Company has used PPD as a parent of Blueberry Muffin, Strawberry Cheesecake and Humboldt Dream.
