Activated Carbon Filters (MouthPeace)

These are activated carbon filter refills for MouthPeace, the silicone mouthpiece from Moose Labs. Moose Labs sells the refills under the name MouthPeace Filters, in two types: Activated Carbon and Corn Fiber.

Three sizes, one for each MouthPeace model

Each filter size is matched to a MouthPeace model. Moose Labs gives these size comparisons in its own words:

• MouthPeace (Original), for bongs and rigs: about the size of a quarter.
• Mini, for joints, blunts and vapes: smaller than a dime.
• Micro, for bowls, bubblers and e-rigs: about the size of a penny.

Micro arrived in 2023 for smaller hand pipes and bubblers. The Original size is the one made for bongs and rigs, which our glass versus silicone bong guide and our dab rig versus bong comparison cover.

Triple-layer carbon, as Moose Labs describes it

The activated carbon type uses the brand’s own triple-layer filter design and is described as made from recycled and biodegradable material. The About page says the 2019 filter is built from nonwoven fibres and activated carbon. The redesigned MouthPeace and the activated carbon filter were introduced together in July 2019.

Corn Fiber, the other type, was added in 2022. Moose Labs describes it as natural corn-fibre filtration for a lighter draw and more flavour, also made from recycled and biodegradable materials.

Swapping a filter and disposing of the old one

Moose Labs calls the filters multi-use. A filter lasts a different time depending on puff size and how often someone smokes. The site’s cues for replacing one are restricted airflow, flavour that drops off, or a filter that looks spent.

A finished filter comes out and is thrown away. Moose Labs says not to flush it.

Moose Labs, from a bowl stand to a patent

Moose Labs LLC is family-owned and based in Los Angeles, California. Its About page timeline starts in 2013 in Auburn, Massachusetts, where brothers Dan and Jay Rush hand-made a bowl stand called the 420 Stand. The company moved to Los Angeles in 2015, became Moose Labs after the founders’ dog, and launched the first MouthPeace that year.

The site lists US Patent No. 12,102,136, issued on 1 October 2024, for its universal filtering mouthpiece with a removable filter cartridge. Beyond the filters, the range includes a smell-proof carry bag and other items; see more in our accessories.
