Crafty Vaporizer

Crafty Vaporizer is a portable, battery-powered vaporizer for dry herb from Storz & Bickel, a German maker that says it has built vaporizers since 1996. The brand’s site now shows the Crafty line as the CRAFTY+, so the specifications below are the ones Storz & Bickel gives for the CRAFTY+.

Hot air plus a heated chamber

Storz & Bickel says the CRAFTY+ combines convection (hot air through the material) with conduction (a heated filling chamber), a combination it calls patented. Heat-up takes about 1 minute to 180°C (356°F). Inhalation is a direct draw with no balloon, and airflow is about 10 litres per minute with comfortably low draw resistance.

The brand says its vaporizers are designed to vaporize dry herbs without combustion, and the CRAFTY+ page states that the device is not suitable for tobacco, tobacco products or nicotine.

Temperature steps and the optional app

The range runs from 40°C to 210°C (104°F to 410°F), with a default base temperature of 180°C (356°F). A double-click of the power button engages the Booster, which adds 15°C (27°F) for 195°C (383°F). Super Boost raises it to 210°C (410°F).

Control comes from one power button, plus Bluetooth to the S&B Web App on a Bluetooth Low Energy smartphone. The app is optional because the device runs on its defaults. It changes the base and booster temperatures, LED brightness and the vibration signal, and shows battery status and operating time.

Size, chamber and charging

The CRAFTY+ measures 5.7 cm wide, 11.0 cm high and 3.3 cm deep (2.2 x 4.3 x 1.3 in) and weighs 135 g. Its filling chamber is ceramic-coated and 1.4 cm³, and Storz & Bickel’s comparison page gives the capacity as approximately 200 mg, with vibration feedback and automatic shutoff also listed.

A built-in lithium-ion battery charges through a USB-C socket. There is no pass-through, so the device cannot be used while charging. A Storz & Bickel page for Canada adds that it charges 25 minutes faster than its predecessor.

Storz & Bickel’s Canadian portal lists the CRAFTY+ box as 1 CRAFTY+, 1 USB-C cable, 3 small base seal rings, 3 small normal screens, 3 small coarse screens, 1 dosing capsule, 1 cleaning brush and a concise instruction sheet. The brand also says the device is made in Germany and uses PEEK material.
