NYC Diesel meets Californian Orange

Barney’s Farm bred Red Diesel by pairing its own NYC Diesel with the sweet, citrusy Californian Orange Bud. It says the large colas are full of resin and covered in dominant red hairs inherited from the orange parent. Leafly describes the same cross as NYC Diesel’s sweet-and-sour diesel taste joined with California Orange, a stable, heavy producer added to raise yield and potency. Barney’s Farm and AllBud describe an even split of sativa and indica, and Leafly classes the strain as a hybrid.

Spicy diesel with sweet citrus

AllBud’s aroma note is classic spicy diesel with sweet citrus accents and a slight pungency, and its flavour note is sweet citrus and diesel, finishing earthy and dank. It describes the buds as light minty green with an earthy reddish tint underneath. Leafly’s top flavours are apple, diesel and chemical, and its terpene list runs limonene, myrcene, caryophyllene. Of two Leafly reviewers, one saw greenish buds with red hairs and smelled apple and diesel; the other noted a citrusy, spicy diesel smell and a sweet, spicy exhale.

A quick, euphoric start

Leafly describes powerful euphoric effects that arrive right away, with an energetic rush that lifts the mood, and rates the strain mostly energizing. AllBud describes potent, fast-hitting euphoria: a sharp lift in mood, growing happiness and creative energy, with deep relaxation through mind and body. Barney’s Farm calls the high a mix of a trippy, cerebral sativa high and a relaxing indica side. AllBud adds that the strain is not well suited to beginners.

THC readings and growing notes

Leafly gives Red Diesel 16% THC and 0% CBD in its header and places it above the average for THC. AllBud’s header shows 19% to 22% THC, 1% CBD and 1% CBN, and Barney’s Farm lists 20% THC. For growers, Barney’s Farm describes a hardy, medium-sized plant whose side branches need support in the last week of flowering, reaching 100 cm indoors and yielding up to 600 g per square metre. Both Barney’s Farm and Leafly give 60 to 65 days of flowering, and Barney’s Farm has outdoor plants coming down during the first two weeks of October.

Dabbing a strong extract
