Wesley 40mg THC Tea

Wesley Tea Company labels this cannabis-infused tea at 40 mg of THC, carried in soluble form in a vegan capsule inside the tea bag. On Wesley’s own pages, each 40 mg tea comes as 1 bag or 10 bags.

A capsule that dissolves in hot water

According to Wesley’s FAQ, the capsule dissolves once the bag meets hot water and releases the full dose, so a used bag goes in the bin rather than into a second cup. Steeping longer changes the flavour, not the potency, and the brand suggests about 8 oz of water for one serving. Its product pages call for water at 100°C (212°F) and 4 minutes of brewing. The bags themselves are made from natural corn fibre rather than silken material.

The 40 mg blends and their caffeine

Wesley’s site lists four teas at 40 mg of THC, including these three:

• Relaxing Razz: apple pieces, lemon verbena, lemongrass, hibiscus, lemon pieces, raspberry pieces, cornflower petals and natural flavours; caffeine-free.
• Blue Citrus Royaltea: moringa, mate, lemon, cinnamon, orange, strawberry leaves, butterfly blue pea flowers, safflower and calendula petals, and natural flavours; medium caffeine.
• Green Activitea: pinhead gunpowder green tea; caffeinated.

Organic distillate and tea-only equipment

Wesley says the THC distillate in its teas comes from organic cannabis plants and is processed in the company’s own facility, and that its production equipment is used only for tea. The brand describes its blends as vegan, with herbal ingredients organically grown and sourced domestically where possible. Besides THC teas, Wesley makes CBD and 1:1 CBD:THC teas, infused hot chocolate, infusion tinctures and THC mints.

Pacing a 40 mg cup

Because a tea is swallowed, its THC goes through the liver, which is why it starts more slowly than smoked cannabis and lasts longer. Health Canada’s lower-risk page puts a starting edible amount at 2.5 mg of THC or less, a sixteenth of what one of these bags is labelled, and it warns that edible effects can take 30 minutes to 2 hours to show and up to 4 hours to build fully.
