Leafly describes Purple Kush as a pure indica that emerged from the Oakland area of California from a cross of Hindu Kush and Purple Afghani, and AllBud lists the same parents and calls it 100% indica. Weedmaps, which also lists the name Purple Hindu Kush, ties the classic cut to Oakland's Oaksterdam scene and to Dark Heart Nursery, which circulated it, and says the original breeder remains uncertain.

Weedmaps also flags another strain under the same name: Tastebudz Genetics sells a feminized Purple Kush bred from Blackberry Kush and Granddaddy Purple, so seed-grown Purple Kush may not be the classic Oakland cut. Leafly lists Pink Lemonade and Banana Bread among the classic version's offspring.

AllBud describes small, furry, bright green buds with purple and orange hairs, dark purple undertones and a frosty, sticky coat. Leafly reviewers (2,308 ratings) most often report feeling sleepy, hungry and relaxed, and Leafly rates the strain as mostly calming, with a long-lasting euphoria alongside physical relaxation. AllBud describes an uplifting head high followed by a warming body high that leaves people relaxed and sedated, and Weedmaps says relaxation, a heavier body feel and happy, sleepy feedback come up most, which is why many people keep it for the evening.

The negatives Leafly users mention most are dry mouth, dry eyes and dizziness. Start low, and follow Health Canada's lower-risk guidelines, which say not to drive for at least 6 hours after using cannabis.
