The Marathon Edition is a collector’s edition of Backwoods tobacco cigars, added to California’s Unflavored Tobacco List in a June 2, 2026 update under the name Backwoods x Marathon Collector’s Edition Cigars.
Inside the May 28, 2026 Marathon entry
The update names ITG Cigars Inc. as the maker, gives May 28, 2026 as the date added, and describes a 5-count foil pack inside an 8-pack display box. Being on the list means ITG Cigars Inc. certified the edition as having nothing in it that imparts a characterizing flavour.
The list is a California Department of Justice publication, and manufacturers and importers certify each style on it under penalty of perjury.
Backwoods history in a 1979 filing and a 1980s slogan
US trademark records on Justia include a BACKWOODS filing for cigars dated May 17, 1979, and show ITG Cigars Inc. as its owner today. Imperial Brands‘ timeline puts the “Wild ‘n Mild” slogan in the 1980s, adding that Backwoods packs still carry it; ITG Brands spells it “WILD & MILD”. Imperial also calls Backwoods a mass-market cigar brand, points to its ties with entertainment and popular culture, and says it turns up regularly at festivals.
