Platinum OG

Leafly pictures the Platinum OG strain with plump, lime green buds, prominent orange hairs and a coat of THC crystals that lends a platinum look; this is that strain in flower form. Leafly calls it as precious as the metal it is named after.

OG Kush, Master Kush and a third parent

Leafly and AllBud both trace the strain to OG Kush and Master Kush plus a third, unidentified parent, and Leafly describes the lineage as purported. Platinum Bubba Kush and Mango Madness are known descendants on Leafly.

Earth, pine, diesel and coffee

Leafly’s flavour tags are earthy, pine and pungent. AllBud describes a smell of diesel, spice and coffee with a similar flavour plus herbal hints, and its flavour tags add sweet and woody. One AllBud reviewer found very frosty, sticky buds with coffee and gas flavours. Leafly reviewers mention a typical Kush taste and a woody, forest-like flavour, and one found a batch somewhat cheesy-smelling.

Steven De Guzman’s tip in our Platinum OG guide cites breeder Apothecary Genetics, which says the strain tastes like fresh pine nuts, and suggests setting a few pine nuts alongside to compare.

Myrcene first, and a heavy reputation

Leafly’s terpene data, drawn from lab results, ranks myrcene (herbal) highest, with limonene and caryophyllene behind it. Leafly classes the strain as an indica-dominant hybrid, calls it one of the heaviest strains around and describes a brief, heady onset; the top two effects in its reviews are relaxed and tingly. AllBud gives a 75% indica, 25% sativa split and describes a mostly physical high, a body buzz with euphoria and happiness. The strain holds 4.4 from 1,029 ratings on Leafly and 4.3 from 64 votes and 37 reviews on AllBud.

THC: 19% on Leafly, up to 24% on AllBud

Leafly lists THC around 19% and CBD at 0%, and its meter shows higher THC than average. AllBud says THC easily passes 20%, with some tests reaching 24%, and its header shows CBD and CBN at 1% each.

Health Canada sets a much lower starting point for smoking or vaping: 1 or 2 puffs of a product with no more than 10% THC. Effects from inhaling, it says, begin within seconds to minutes and may need up to 30 minutes to peak.
