Power Plant Strain

Power Plant is flower named for a strain with African roots. Leafly calls it a sativa variety made from African Sativa. AllBud‘s type for the strain is sativa dominant hybrid, at 65:35 sativa to indica.

Power Plant’s African roots

Leafly lists a single parent, African. AllBud traces the strain to native South African sativas that were inbred, with some indica in the mix, and says it turns up in many markets across the American West and in Europe. One Leafly reviewer calls it a South African landrace.

Leafly names Cotton Candy Kush and American Pie among the strains that descend from it. For what strain labels really mean, see our explainer on strain labels.

Woody, earthy and peppery

Leafly describes a woody, earthy and pungent aroma and a sharp, peppery taste, and tags the flavour pepper, woody and earthy. AllBud describes a sweet taste with earthy, woody notes and a sweet, earthy, woody aroma. It tags the flavour herbal, peppery, spicy and woody, and the aroma earthy, herbal, pungent and woody.

AllBud describes light-green buds with light-brown flecks and a silvery dusting of trichomes. The Leafly reviewer who called it a landrace adds a very pretty bud and a woody, earthy smell with a hint of spice.

Myrcene first, and 15% THC on both sites

On Leafly, myrcene (herbal) dominates the terpene profile, with pinene and caryophyllene behind it. Both Leafly and AllBud give THC as 15%. Leafly shows 0% CBD, while AllBud shows 2%, adding that THC varies and is not especially high on average, and that CBD is sometimes notable for a recreational strain. Per Health Canada, CBD is non-intoxicating and can take the edge off some THC effects, though it still acts on the brain.

A clear-headed lift

The high, in Leafly’s write-up, is clear-headed and buzzy, and it feels happy and creative. Its reviewers tag talkative, energetic and focused most often, and also happy, uplifted, euphoric, creative, relaxed and giggly. AllBud describes a clear-headed energy lift with a creative spark and a happy, euphoric mood, and suggests mornings or early afternoons. Leafly rates it 4.1 from 395 ratings, and AllBud 4.5 from 12 votes and 9 reviews.

What growers report

Leafly says growers report a fast growing time and good results in almost any environment. AllBud reviewers who grew it call it easy and productive. One mentions big buds on plants that needed stakes, and another reports about 3/4 lb from a 4×5 closet under LED.
