Runtz

Leafly and AllBud agree that Runtz, the strain behind this flower, is a hybrid and that its parents are Zkittlez and Gelato; Leafly’s description credits Cookies Fam with the cross. The flower comes in five weights, 28 g being the largest and 1 g the smallest.

A 2020 award, a Long Beach crew and 20 variations

Leafly gave the strain its 2020 Strain of the Year title and notes that at least 20 variations of the strain exist. Leafly credits Yung LB’s Long Beach crew with popularizing it, and says Zwirlz is its name in the Netherlands. Leafly’s grow notes put flowering at 63 days, or 7 to 9 weeks.

Tree fruit, pineapple and sour berry

On Leafly the flavour tags read tree fruit, apricot, sweet, and the description praises a very fruity profile that smells like a bag of sweet candy, with a creamy smoke.

AllBud describes a very fruity flavour with tropical citrus and sour berry notes. In the aroma it finds a sharp, spicy pineapple note, which grows a little pungent as the sticky nugs are broken apart and burned. Its flavour tags are fruity, pineapple, spicy, sweet and tropical.

Purple, lime green and grape-shaped nugs

Per Leafly’s grow notes the buds are resin-drenched, from rich purple through to lime green; one reviewer saw dense nugs, fairly purple, with hints of forest green. AllBud describes dense, grape-shaped, olive green buds with thin orange hairs, dark purple undertones and a coating of tiny, frosty, purple-tinted white trichomes.

Caryophyllene leads, limonene follows

Leafly ranks caryophyllene first, ahead of limonene and myrcene. For background on limonene, see our limonene explainer.

THC figures from Leafly and AllBud, and what people report

Leafly’s header says 21% THC and 0% CBD, with potency marked above average. AllBud’s THC range runs 19% to 29%, and our strain page puts most batches between 19% and 29% as well.

Leafly’s description calls the euphoric, uplifting effects long-lasting; its reviewers tag talkative, giggly and relaxed more than anything else, and Leafly’s effect slider points towards energizing. AllBud places the onset a few minutes past the last toke, with a lift in the head first, then a tingly feeling that spreads through the body; its tags are hungry, relaxing and uplifting. Ratings are 4.6 from 1,140 on Leafly and 4.6 from 171 votes and 94 reviews on AllBud.

Next to AllBud’s 19% to 29%, the starting point Health Canada gives for smoking or vaping is modest: 1 or 2 puffs, and a product no stronger than 10% THC.
