What Is Black Jack?
Black Jack comes from Sweet Seeds, which crossed its elite Black Domina'98 clone with an elite Jack Herer clone and lists the result as 50% indica and 50% sativa. Leafly also credits Sweet Seeds and files it under hybrids, while AllBud is the outlier, calling it indica dominant at 70% indica.
The name is shared, though. Weedmaps notes that Nirvana's Blackjack is usually documented as Black Domina crossed with Jock Horror, and that The NugLab released its own Black Jack from Deep Chunk and Jack Herer, so the breeder on the label matters as much as the spelling. Leafly's listing describes the Sweet Seeds version.
Sweet Seeds lists 10 awards for Black Jack, including indoor first prizes in Málaga in 2008 and 2009 and in Montevideo in 2016.
Look, Smell and Taste
Leafly describes thick buds with large calyxes that are completely covered in trichomes, and Weedmaps cites grower reports of compact, dense flowers that frost over during bloom.
Sweet Seeds describes a Haze-type aroma with incense, citrus, wood, earth, pine and spice. Leafly reviewers most often taste pepper, tobacco and pine, AllBud lists citrus, pine, sweet and woody flavours, and Weedmaps adds that some selections show sweeter floral or bubblegum notes under the spice.
Leafly's lab data puts terpinolene first, followed by caryophyllene and ocimene.
Effects People Report
Leafly's 574 ratings most often mention feeling relaxed, focused and uplifted, and Leafly rates the effects as mostly energizing; its description also calls them exceptionally long lasting.
Sweet Seeds calls the effect psychoactive and stimulating, with a feeling of happiness and energy. Weedmaps says people who know the Sweet Seeds version describe an uplifting, cerebral high that can turn spacey or meditative, with physical relaxation also reported, while AllBud describes a euphoric body high with deep relaxation.
The downsides Leafly users mention most are dry mouth, feeling anxious and dry eyes, and AllBud adds paranoia. Start with a small amount, and follow Health Canada's advice not to drive for at least 6 hours after using cannabis.
THC and Potency
Sweet Seeds lists 16% to 21% THC with about 1% CBD, Weedmaps gives the same 16% to 21%, and Leafly shows about 19% THC with around 1% CBG. AllBud's range is wider, at 14% to 24%. Any single batch can land above or below these figures, so check the lab numbers on the label.
Similar Strains
Sweet Seeds says Black Jack takes its Haze aroma and mental stimulation from Jack Herer and its potency and dense buds from Black Domina. Weedmaps lists Hash Plant, Super Silver Haze, Northern Lights and Jack Flash among similar strains, and Leafly lists Sweet Cheese and Jackalope as Black Jack offspring.
