What Is Chernobyl?
Weedmaps says Subcool, co-founder of California's TGA Genetics, created Chernobyl in 2007 by crossing a cut called Bloodwreck, itself a cross of a Trainwreck male and a Trinity female, with a Jack the Ripper male. Leafly lists the same three strains in its lineage, and Weedmaps adds that Chernobyl was named High Times Strain of the Year in 2010.
Leafly and Weedmaps call it a hybrid, while AllBud describes it as sativa dominant, at about 80% sativa. Weedmaps also notes two well-known cuts grown from Chernobyl seeds, Slymer and The Golden Ticket.
Look, Smell and Taste
AllBud describes medium to small, tight green buds covered in trichomes and orange hairs.
Leafly says Chernobyl smells like lime sherbet, and TGA's own description, as quoted by Weedmaps, compares the flavour to a lime Slurpee. Leafly reviewers most often taste lime, citrus and lemon. AllBud describes a funky, potent smell with lime and citrus undertones, and a citrus inhale with a dank exhale.
Leafly's lab data lists terpinolene first, followed by myrcene and limonene.
Effects People Report
Leafly describes dreamy, long-lasting effects, and its 819 ratings most often mention feeling uplifted, focused and energetic; Leafly rates the strain as mostly energizing. AllBud says the euphoric, energetic high can last more than three hours.
Not every description agrees: TGA's own notes, quoted by Weedmaps, call the effects pleasantly sedative. The downsides Leafly users list most are dry mouth, dry eyes and dizziness. Start with a small amount, and follow Health Canada's advice not to drive for at least 6 hours after using cannabis.
THC and Potency
Leafly lists Chernobyl at about 19% THC with around 1% CBG, and AllBud gives a range of 16% to 22%. Numbers change from batch to batch, so check the lab result on the label.
Similar Strains
Chernobyl's closest relatives are its parents: Trainwreck, through the Bloodwreck mother, and Jack the Ripper, which Leafly describes as the flagship strain from Subcool's The Dank. Leafly lists Agent Orange as another Jack the Ripper offspring, and Weedmaps names Trainwreck, Jack the Ripper and Golden Ticket as the strains most similar to Chernobyl.
