What LA Confidential is
LA Confidential is an indica from DNA Genetics. The breeder's own description, reproduced on SeedFinder, gives the genetics as O.G. LA Affie x Afghani and calls it 100% indica, and SeedFinder's family tree traces OG LA Affie back to Afghan indica stock. DNA Genetics was founded in Amsterdam in 2004 by two California natives, according to the DNA Genetics site.
Westword reports that the strain came out of Southern California and took third and then second place for best indica at the 2004 and 2005 High Times Cannabis Cups. SeedFinder's award records match, and add a first place in the indica breeders' category at the 2005 IC420 Growers Cup.

Look, smell and taste
Leafly describes the buds as frosty and lime green with little purple leaves, and the taste as smooth and piney with a classic skunky aroma that does not linger. Westword's review adds round, dense buds with mauve streaks, a hash-heavy nose with hints of bubblegum, soil and pine, and a sweet, earthy, piney flavour with a citrus tang. Leafly's reviewers most often tag LA Confidential as sleepy, relaxed and euphoric, and Leafly's summary describes a fast-arriving effect that is both psychedelic and calming. DNA Genetics puts it more bluntly: psychedelic and energetic, "with a hammer". Westword's reviewer found that relaxation and couch lock come on fast and calls it a nighttime treat for most people.
The negatives Leafly users mention most are dry mouth, dry eyes and dizziness. THC varies by grower and batch, so check the label rather than relying on a strain average. Health Canada suggests starting with 1 or 2 puffs of a product with 10% THC or less and waiting, since inhaled cannabis can take up to 30 minutes to reach its full effect.
