Leafly places the origin of Acapulco Gold in and around Acapulco, Mexico, and lists Mexican as its parent. Skunk 1 and Apple Pie appear in its genetics section as strains bred from it. Leafly says the strain has a reputation as one of the best cannabis strains ever made.

Orange hairs, gold colour, burnt toffee

Leafly describes orange hairs that look like a gold nugget, buds in gold, green and brown, and plenty of resin. A burnt-toffee aroma comes through when the bud is broken up, and the flavours Leafly lists are honey, chestnut and coffee.

One Leafly reviewer, writing about a batch from the late 1990s grown in Santa Cruz, described dense, frosty buds that looked brownish but had a gold shine in the sun, with a sweet smell, a coffee-like undertone and a skunky funk.
