SaleNamed, as Leafly tells it, for its strong grape-like smell, Grape Ape is the strain in this Dab Habit shatter. Leafly credits Apothecary Genetics and Barney’s Farm with propagating it.
Mendocino Purps, Skunk and Afghani
Leafly describes Grape Ape as a mostly indica cross of Mendocino Purps, Skunk and Afghani. AllBud names the same three, specifying the original Afghani, and puts the split at 90% indica to 10% sativa.
The family tree carries on below it. Leafly lists The Original Z among its child strains, and in a tip for our Grape Ape guide, Steven De Guzman points out that The Original Z holds on to the grape while bringing in lime and grapefruit.
Deep purple leaves around dense buds
Leafly describes dense, compact buds wrapped in deep purple leaves that darken as the plant ripens, after a flowering time of 7 to 8 weeks. AllBud also notes the deep purple in both buds and leaves and links it to the strain’s purple ancestors. Its taste and smell, per AllBud, are sweet grape with a faint berry note, and Leafly’s top flavours are grape, berry and sweet. Leafly’s terpene figures are led by myrcene, with pinene and caryophyllene behind it.
Reported effects and Grape Ape’s THC
Relaxed is among the feelings Leafly reviewers report most, and the site’s gauges lean toward calming for the effects and above average for potency. AllBud describes a deeply relaxing, full-body high that can also feel euphoric and focused, with a clear head. Leafly’s strain-wide figures are about 18% THC and 0% CBD; AllBud’s run from 18% to 21%.
A brittle extract for dabbing
As shatter, Grape Ape comes as a hard, translucent extract that cracks apart when cold instead of bending. Dabbing is the main use, with a few shards crumbled over flower as the alternative, and our comparison of shatter and wax looks at why one snaps while the other scoops. Health Canada’s guidance counts shatter, like wax, hash and kief, as a high-THC extract and asks first-timers and those who seldom use cannabis to stay away from that group. Inhaled cannabis, it adds, can be felt in seconds or minutes yet take as long as 30 minutes to reach its peak.
