Dutch Treat Strain: Effects, Flavour, THC and Lineage

What is Dutch Treat?

Dutch Treat is a hybrid bred from Northern Lights and Haze. Leafly says it originates from Amsterdam and is a cultural staple of the coffee shops there. AllBud adds Skunk to its ancestry and says that outside the Netherlands it is most popular in the Pacific Northwest and the southwestern United States.

No original breeder is credited, and several seed companies sell their own versions: SeedFinder lists Dutch Treat from East Island Seeds, Jordan of the Islands, Western Cultured and Zamnesia. That helps explain why the type labels differ. Leafly files it as a hybrid, AllBud calls it 80% indica, and Western Cultured's description says phenotypes range from indica- to sativa-dominant, with its own leaning sativa. Our guide to indica vs sativa vs hybrid covers why these labels vary.

Look, smell and taste

Leafly says the smell is sweet fruit mixed with pine and eucalyptus, and growers describe dense, sticky, pungent buds. Its reviewers most often taste pine, sweet and earthy notes. AllBud describes a eucalyptus smell with a sweet, earthy pine flavour, and Western Cultured's version smells intensely of pine and ripe fruit with hints of lime.

In Leafly's lab data, the most abundant terpene is terpinolene, followed by myrcene and ocimene.

Effects people report

More than 1,000 people have rated Dutch Treat on Leafly, and the effects they mention most are euphoric, relaxed and uplifted. Leafly describes cerebral effects that leave people feeling uplifted and euphoric with a relaxed mind, and rates it mostly energizing. AllBud describes a near-instant, upbeat head rush followed by a deeply relaxed, numbing body high that stops short of couch-lock.

The downsides Leafly reviewers report most are dry mouth, dry eyes and feeling anxious, and AllBud mentions dry mouth and red eyes. Western Cultured describes strong psychoactive effects. Start with a small amount, and follow Health Canada's lower-risk guidelines: do not drive or operate machinery for at least 6 hours after using cannabis.

How strong is Dutch Treat?

AllBud lists THC at 18% to 25%, and Leafly shows 19% THC and 1% CBG while rating it higher in THC than average. Several seed lines carry the name, so go by the lab-tested numbers on the product rather than the strain name alone.

Similar strains

Its parent Haze brings the sativa side, and Skunk #1 appears in Western Cultured's lineage, with AllBud also listing Skunk among its ancestors. Leafly lists Velvet Bud and Dutch Hawaiian among Dutch Treat's offspring.
