Blueberry Hash

Blueberry Hash is hash, which means trichomes from the cannabis plant (its resin glands) pressed together. Trichomes left loose and unpressed are kief, the dust that builds up at the bottom of a grinder. The name refers to the Blueberry strain, which Leafly credits to the American breeder DJ Short.

DJ Short’s Blueberry and its background

Leafly lists the Blueberry strain the name refers to as an indica, also called Berry Blue, while AllBud labels it indica dominant, with 80% indica and 20% sativa. AllBud credits DJ Short as well. Leafly traces his work with exotic landrace strains to the late 1970s, and AllBud places the start of his landrace experiments in the early 1970s.

Leafly’s genetics panel lists Afghani and Thai as its parents, and AllBud says it is thought to descend from Purple Thai crossed with Afghan. Leafly adds that the genetics spread widely because DJ Short worked with several seed banks and breeders, and it lists Blue Dream and Blueberry Muffin as children. One Leafly reviewer says there are two big cuts: DJ Short’s original and a 1990s Colorado cut.

Both Leafly and AllBud say the strain won the 2000 High Times Cannabis Cup award for Best Indica.
