Bubba Kush

BK, Bubba and Bubba OG Kush are the other names Leafly and AllBud record for Bubba Kush, a classic strain sold here as flower. Leafly files it as an indica, and AllBud rates it 80% indica and 20% sativa, an indica-dominant hybrid.

From a New Orleans indica to Florida

Leafly relays the account of the breeder the strain is named after: shortly after 1996, OG Kush pollen met an unidentified indica picked up in New Orleans. That mother plant was simply called Bubba, though it is said to have been Northern Lights. Bubba Kush then moved to Florida along with OG Kush, and Leafly describes it as a Florida indica that became well known across the US and beyond.

The stocky plant and bulky buds point to Afghani ancestry, Leafly says, though it calls the genetic origins uncertain. AllBud believes the parents were Afghani and OG Kush.

Kush Mints, Wedding Cake and growing notes

By Leafly’s account, Bubba Kush became a classic and fed many later strains, including Kush Mints and Wedding Cake, and its genetics block lists Kush Mints and Purple Milk as children. Growers get a note too: the plant suits a sea of green (SOG) setup, Leafly says, with yields that typically reach 430 g per square metre and a wide spread of indica phenotypes.

Heart-shaped nugs in olive and purple

AllBud describes oversized, airy, heart-shaped nugs in dark olive green, with long, thin orange hairs and a layer of tiny white trichomes. Leafly calls the buds bulky, with a distinctive structure and shades that run from forest green to pale purple.

Hash, coffee and chocolate on the exhale

Leafly describes a sweet hashish flavour with subtle chocolate and coffee notes on the exhale, and its flavour tags are coffee, earthy and pungent. AllBud tastes it as lightly sweet and hashy, with floral coffee and hints of rich, spicy chocolate, and smells earthy hash and mocha coffee with a touch of spicy flowers. One Leafly reviewer noticed coffee, wood and a slightly skunky smell.

Reported effects and THC from 14% to 25%

On Leafly, the effects reviewers mention most are relaxed and hungry. AllBud describes a gentle mood lift and a happy head paired with a body high, and tags the strain with euphoria, happy and uplifting. Leafly puts THC near 17% with CBD at 0%, while AllBud’s header shows 25% and its write-up gives an average of 14% to 25%. Leafly’s 3,647 ratings average 4.3, and AllBud’s 137 votes come to 4.6.

Health Canada‘s lower-risk guidance on smoking begins at 1 or 2 puffs, from cannabis with 10% THC or less, and notes that inhaled effects arrive within seconds to minutes.
