Laughing Buddha, the Barney’s Farm strain that Leafly credits with a win at the 2003 High Times Cannabis Cup, gives its name to this 1.1 g cart from Dope Elite.
A Thai landrace crossed with a Jamaican hybrid
Barney’s Farm says it made Laughing Buddha by crossing its own pure landrace Thai sativa with its Jamaican hybrid, and calls the result almost pure sativa, at 80% sativa and 20% indica. Leafly lists it as a sativa and describes an earthy cross of Thai and Jamaican strains, while AllBud‘s split is 75% sativa to 25% indica, which it calls sativa dominant. Leafly also gives “buddha” as another name, and Barney’s Farm labels it a Cup Winner.
Sweet fruit up front, pepper behind
Leafly describes a sweet, fruity smell broken up by hints of spice, and its flavour tags read tea, sage and spicy/herbal. Barney’s Farm calls the plant very fragrant, with a concentrated sweet smell of exotic fruit. AllBud finds the smell fruity, sweet, strong and fresh, with hints of spice, and the taste potent and intense, ending on a roasted-pepper aftertaste; its flavour list adds citrus, lemon and pineapple. One Leafly reviewer smelled sweetness first out of the bag, then herbal pepper. Myrcene leads Leafly’s terpene ranking, ahead of caryophyllene and limonene. In our Laughing Buddha guide, Steven De Guzman’s tip suggests sage or green tea alongside fresh pineapple, to cover both the herbal and the fruity notes.
Giggly, upbeat and energizing
Leafly says Laughing Buddha leaves people happy, upbeat and giggling, rates its effects mostly energizing and lists giggly, energetic and uplifted as the feelings its reviewers report most. Barney’s Farm describes an energetic sativa high with uplifting effects and enhanced creativity, and AllBud’s effect tags are creative, euphoria, giggly and happy. For the strain itself, Leafly shows 22% THC with 2% CBG, AllBud about 18% and Barney’s Farm 24%. It rates 4.5 from 294 ratings on Leafly and 4.7 from 25 votes on AllBud.
Big colas and a long flowering period
Barney’s Farm describes a plant of about a metre, 100 to 110 cm indoors, whose longer flowering period of 70 to 75 days pays off in large, tight, heavy buds, with the plant needing support in the last three weeks. Leafly adds that the very large colas tend to need pruning and support, and that by harvest the plant is covered almost entirely in full, frosty buds. AllBud describes the buds as quite hard, dark green and brownish under a thick coating of crystals.
Pacing a 1.1 g cart
Health Canada‘s starting point for vaping is 1 or 2 puffs, and it sets the THC level for those first puffs at 10% or less; vaped cannabis is felt within seconds to minutes yet may need 30 minutes to peak. What to look for in the cartridge itself is the subject of our cartridge buying guide.
