Banana is the Backwoods style that Imperial Brands’ timeline for the brand ties to 2022, the year it lists for the release of what it calls a popular banana flavour. This pack holds five Banana Backwoods tobacco cigars, and Banana Backwoods Authentic Cigars come in the same style.

The frayed Backwoods shape and Tabacalera de Garcia

Three features make up the roll-your-own Backwoods look as ITG Brands describes it: an unfinished head, a tapered body and a frayed end. A report on Cigar Aficionado put the yearly output of Tabacalera de Garcia, a factory in La Romana, Dominican Republic, at upwards of one billion mass-market cigars, most of which are Backwoods. The same report places the factory just outside Casa de Campo, a resort complex.

Hip-hop, festivals and the mass market

In Imperial Brands’ own account, Backwoods is a mass-market cigar brand whose ties to entertainment and popular culture are strong. Hip-hop gets its own mention: Imperial points to a particular following for the brand in the US hip-hop community, to hip-hop references in the 1990s that its timeline records, and to regular appearances at festivals.

Using a Banana Backwoods leaf for a blunt
