Granddaddy Purple

This Granddaddy Purple flower is named for a strain that Leafly says Ken Estes popularized in 2003; our Granddaddy Purple strain guide places that in the Bay Area. Leafly lists it as an indica and gives GDP among its other names.

Mendo Purps and Skunk, or Big Bud and Purple Urkle

Leafly’s text describes an indica cross of Mendo Purps, Skunk and Afghanistan genetics, and adds that other people say it is Big Bud crossed with Purple Urkle. Its genetics panel lists Skunk 1 and Mendocino Purps as the parents, and Cherry Pie and Purple Punch as children of the strain.

AllBud gives Big Bud crossed with Purple Urkle and calls it a heavy indica-dominant strain, 70% indica and 30% sativa.

Purple under a snow of resin

Leafly describes deep purple flowers under a snow-like coat of white resin crystals. AllBud calls the buds strikingly purple, with bright orange hairs and a sticky resin coat.

Leafly’s flavour tags are grape, berry and violet, and it says the grape and berry aroma comes from the strain’s Purps and Ghani heritage. AllBud describes a very sweet grape flavour with a pungent, sharp aftertaste, and a strong sweet grape and berry aroma with a spicy pungency.
