These Honey Bourbon Backwoods are tobacco cigars. When Commonwealth-Altadis introduced the style in November 2014, the displays backing it included a honey bourbon “barrel” sized to stand on a countertop, Convenience Store News reported.

Honey Bourbon was the first limited edition Commonwealth-Altadis put out, the same report said. Imperial Brands says the Backwoods portfolio now holds limited-time offers, Select styles it describes as “premium offers” based on wrapper origin, and a group of variants it calls “iconic” that includes Honey Berry.

Backwoods first reached the US market in 1973, according to Imperial’s brand timeline, whose 1990s entry points to hip-hop references to Backwoods. Imperial frames Backwoods, the brand Honey Bourbon belongs to, as a mass-market cigar name tied up with popular culture and entertainment, citing a notable US hip-hop following and a habit of turning up at festivals.
